Massachusetts - February 14, 2024 - Dramatic dashcam footage captured the heart-stopping moment an ambulance transporting a patient swerved to avoid a car that had rolled over and landed in its path during Tuesday's blizzard.
Paramedic Tim Crosbie of Cataldo Ambulance Service was navigating I-95 in Peabody when a white sedan lost control, crossed the median, and rolled directly in front of him. "It was like slow motion," Crosbie recounted to NBC10 Boston, describing the terrifying incident. "The car was coming right at us."
Fortunately, Crosbie's quick reflexes saved the day. He expertly maneuvered the ambulance, avoiding a head-on collision with the overturned vehicle. Though the sedan clipped the ambulance, both drivers and the patient emerged unscathed.
"We're incredibly lucky everyone walked away from this," shared EMT Tim Wareham, who was tending to the patient at the time. "It could have been much worse."
Massachusetts State Police attributed the accident to the driver losing control due to the hazardous winter conditions. The teenager behind the wheel, remarkably unharmed, was transported to the hospital for observation.
Massachusetts Department of Transportation crews later treated the accident scene, repairing the guardrail damaged by the car. The close call serves as a stark reminder of the importance of safe driving, especially during adverse weather conditions.
