Rensselaerville, NY - A weekend home in Rensselaerville sustained a total loss after a speeding SUV car crashes into the structure early Sunday morning, igniting a fire.

The Tri-Village Volunteer Fire Company responded to the call at 1:05 am and brought the blaze under control within 30 minutes, fully clearing the scene by 5:00 am according to Chief Dennis Wood. Thankfully, there were no serious injuries reported.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation by the Albany County Sheriff's Office.

Homeowner Escapes with Wife, Reflects on Loss

The property, located at 3180 Route 145 and owned by Anthony Esposito of Long Island City, Queens, included a house and a barn. While the fire department managed to save the barn, the house was a complete loss.

Esposito, who was inside the house with his wife at the time of the crash, recounted the harrowing experience. He expressed gratitude for the quick response of the fire department, particularly for saving the barn which held irreplaceable family memorabilia.

Community Support Amidst Devastation

Esposito and his wife lost all their belongings in the fire.  Thankfully, the local community has rallied around the couple, offering support and temporary housing. Notably, the Wood family, who previously treated Esposito's late father, provided immediate assistance in the aftermath.

Esposito is currently working with his insurance company to secure temporary on-site accommodations while they rebuild the house.

"We love it up here," Esposito said. "It's our little slice of heaven. We come up here pretty much every weekend. And the outpouring from the community so far has reinforced our love for the town. It's not just the scenery, it's not just the peace of mind, it's the neighbors as well."
