May 19, 2024 Health
Organic tea brand Yogi voluntarily recalls tea bags due to possible pesticide contamination identified during routine testing.
Naaldwijk, South Holland, Netherlands - May 19, 2024 - Popular organic tea brand Yogi has initiated a recall of nearly 900,000 Echinacea Immune Support tea bags distributed nationwide due to the potential presence of pesticide residue. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced the recall on its website, categorizing it as Class III, indicating a low risk of adverse health consequences.
During "routine audit procedures"
According to a statement released by Yogi on Friday, the company discovered the issue during "routine audit procedures." The statement acknowledges the complexities of the organic supply chain, where external factors like pesticide use on neighboring farms can contaminate certified organic crops.
Yogi emphasizes its commitment to organic practices and adherence to strict specifications that prohibit conventional pesticides. The company is working with retailers to remove affected products from shelves and collaborating with suppliers to ensure stricter compliance with testing and sourcing standards. Additionally, Yogi is implementing new in-house testing measures for all its products.
Identify affected products
The recalled tea comes in 16-count boxes of Organic Yogi Echinacea Immune Support. Consumers can identify affected products by checking the UPC code (0 76950 45010 3) and lot numbers listed on the FDA's website.
Yogi advises consumers to return the recalled tea bags to their place of purchase for a full refund.
