Queen Camilla Provides Health Update on King Charles III in First Royal Appearance Since Cancer Diagnosis

February 10, 2024

In her inaugural public appearance since the recent revelation of King Charles III's cancer diagnosis, Queen Camilla shared encouraging news about His Majesty's health. Attending a charitable concert at Salisbury Cathedral in the U.K., the Queen expressed that Charles is faring "extremely well under the circumstances." She conveyed his gratitude for the outpouring of supportive letters and messages from the public, finding them "very cheering."

King Charles III will persist in undertaking state affairs and official responsibilities

This update follows Buckingham Palace's announcement just a week ago, on Feb. 5, disclosing Charles's cancer diagnosis, which came on the heels of a procedure for an enlarged prostate. The palace statement outlined the situation, stating that a separate concern emerged during the prostate enlargement procedure, leading to subsequent diagnostic tests identifying a form of cancer.

"His Majesty has today commenced a schedule of regular treatments, during which time he has been advised by doctors to postpone public-facing duties," the palace statement explained. However, it emphasized that King Charles III will persist in undertaking state affairs and official responsibilities throughout the treatment.

Expressing gratitude for swift medical intervention

the statement conveyed Charles's positive outlook towards treatment and his eagerness to resume full public duties at the earliest opportunity. The decision to disclose the diagnosis was made to curb speculation and foster global understanding of cancer's impact.

Prince William, addressing the public for the first time about his father's diagnosis, spoke during a gala honoring the London Air Ambulance Charity earlier in the week. Attendees included Tom Cruise. William extended thanks for the supportive messages and humorously noted a shift away from medical matters during the event.

In a related context, Kate Middleton, Prince William's wife, continues her recovery at home after an abdominal surgery in mid-January. Having left the hospital in late January, she has returned to her residence in Windsor, England. The royal family faces health challenges with resilience, maintaining their commitment to public service even amid personal trials.
